1st Day of School 2012

Wow did this summer fly by! We had a really fun and full summer, but all good summers must come to an end.

School officially started Thursday August 16th.

Simeon is in 6th grade this year, which is his last year in elementary school. He has the same teacher as last year Mrs. Gordon. He really likes her. Since he has the same teacher 2 years in a row he has some of the same kids in his class. His class moved so this year he's in room 18 right towards the main doors to the school. He is going to play in the advanced band this year.

Corrine and Ammon's 1st Day of school Monday August 20th.

Corrine is in 4th grade. Because they do combined grades and there was an extra class of 3rd graders coming into the combined classes they had to redo the classes. Corrine got a brand new teacher this year Mrs. Scheur. Her classroom in #16 which is on the side of the school facing the 6th grade grass area. In her class she has our neighbor Joe Fischer (the 1st time together). Joseph Spencer (from church), Mia McDonald and Lauryn Varo. Lauryn was very excited to have Corrine in her class this year.

Ammon is in 2nd grade. He has Mrs. Hynes. She used to team teach when Simeon had her, but now she is a full day teacher. She used to be a reading resource teacher half day, so she is very strong in reading. Ammon has Will Dickson, Andrew Lopez and alot of girls in his class. Thankfully they have kept the 3 classes for his grade, so the classes are staying small. He is in room 12 which is right by the spacenet on the side of the school.

Ammon was so excited when Uncle Josh gave him this real Marine backpack this summer. It instantly became his school backpack.

Last day of school

Today was the last day of school and in true Iowa fashion it was cold, gray and raining (just like last year) even though it's been in the 80's and 90's the last few weeks!

Ammon has Mrs. Hackbarth this year. He did a great job in school and really improved his reading. This year he only had 17 kids in his class versus the 28 last year. Having the small class size was a great thing for Ammon.

Corrine had Mrs. Johnson and LOVED her. What can we say she is an amazing teacher! Corrine excelled in math and science. Corrine is hoping with all the changes to classes next year to still be in her class.

Simeon has Mrs. Gordon. He did amazing in math and science and his reading has really improved this year. He had some focusing struggles this year, but he didn't let that slow him down. He'll have her again next year.

It's Great to be a Lemme leopard!!!

Fine Arts Night

This year Fine Arts Night was a little different. This year instead of an art gallery the kids worked together with Lincoln Elementary school to make a stop motion animation movie. They took over 10,000 pictures and pieced them one after the other to make a 15 minute movie called "The Robot and the Butterfly."
The Robot moved through the story picture after picture which made him "move". The kids took turns slightly moving flowers, birds, the Robot and Butterfly to make them appear to move. The kids even did the sound effects for the movie.
Ammon was so excited telling me what parts he was involved in.
Their art teacher is really awesome and does some really fun "out of the box" art projects with them.

Ammon's group was combined 1st and 2nd graders. They sang: "Candle on the Water", "Wonderful World" and "Haukunamatata". Ammon stood by Andrew. They were really fun to watch talking before it started.

After they had the younger kids and families go out and the older kids and families come in, all the kids came back in and sang "We Appreciate you" to their music teacher Mr. Hielman who is retiring this year. It was really sweett to see her being sung to by so many people. She has been a wonderful music teacher. Simeon and Corrine have both done choir with her.

Corrine's group was a combined 3rd and 4th grade group. They sang: She stood by her sweet friend Lily.

Corrine also sang with the Lemme Choir. They sang:

Simeon's group was a combined 5th and 6th grade group. They sang: During "We are your Child" they had a slide show of pictures of the kids.

After Simeon sang they had the kids stay up on the stage and watch thier premiere of "The Robot and The Butterfly." It was just as cute the 2nd time!

Our trumpet player

Simeon had his "Super Lesson" tonight at City High School. All the trumpet players for the Eastside band met together with an instructor from City High to have their 1st lesson. The lesson went very slowly starting with how to hold your lips, to blowing with your mouth held the proper way. Then they finally got to open their cases and take out the mouth piece, and practice blowing into it the right way. Then came the time to blow into their trumpets.
WOW a trumpet is LOUD!!!

Simeon is really excited to play the trumpet. He has 3 friends ( Nick, Sam & Keaghan) from his school also playing the trumpet and a total of 31 kids from thier school are in the band. It's going to be a BIG band.
Monday the 4 trumpet players at Lemme have their 1st lesson with the band director at their school. In a few weeks he'll have weekly lessons at the highschool with all the trumpet players.

1st days of school 2011

Again this year Corrine & Ammon were at camp on the 1st 2 days of school, so the 1st day of school happened on multiple days. During the summer our school went through some remodeling where all the partition doors were taken down and real walls put in their place. Because of the remodeling and larger class sizes in some of the younger grades all the class rooms (except the 2 kindergarten rooms that are not in the library wing) were switched around.

Our 3 Lemme Leopards in 2011

Simeon started on August 18th. He has Mrs. Gordon and is in room 17. He is in a 5th/6th grade combo class, and was excited to be with some friends he made 2 years ago. He has his good friends Nick and Carter in his class. He (like always) was super excited to start school and was up and ready to go long before it was time to go. Being in 5th grade brings more freedom and changes. He now has a locker, which he shares with Nick & Carter, in the library hallway. He can go to the library any day to check out books, and they get to do lunch duty (which earns them a free hot lunch). He is down to only 1 recess a day now.

Corrine Started August 22nd. She has Mrs. Johnson (Simeon had her for the last 2 years and we love Her!!) and is in room 15. She is in a 3rd/4th grade combo class. She has Madilyn and April in her class. She doesn't have her closest friends in her class this year, but our request to have her not with a certain girl (because she was very mean to her all last year) did happen. 3rd grade comes with some extra privileges. She gets to pick anywhere to sit at lunch and they can go anywhere on the playground.

Ammon also started on August 22nd. He has Mrs. Hackbarth (Simeon had her for 1st grade) and is in room 10. She is a stricter teacher, yet also kind. Ammon has his good buddy Grant in his class. This year his grade increased to 59 kids. They had 2 1/2 teachers the 1st day of school. This meant that in the morning each class would have 20 kids, and in the afternoons they would have 30 kids each. Ammon was with Hackbarth all day. Luckily we received the funding to get the 3rd teacher full time, so Ammon's permanently in a room of 19 kids. In 1st grade quiet time is no longer and his teacher doesn't do snack time.

Rebecca gets to stay home with mom again this year. She had her Toy Story lunch box packed with her lunch and was dressed for school, but she was more then happy to come home with mom and play with friends at home. She'll do "mommy school" at home again and hopefully sign up for a gymnastics class.

Playing @ Lemme

When did my little girl become big enough for the big swings?

Rebecca is such a little monkey girl.

Climbing in the trees.

Simeon showed Ammon how to do backflips off the bars. Ammon LOVED it. He flip over and over.

Rebecca was so jealous that the big kids were higher then she was.

She's happier now being up with the big kids.

We have so much fun walking up to the school to play. Everytime we go up to play there are always a couple of other groups playing up there. There are 3 different playgrounds, a space net, a big blacktop, 2 huge soccer/baseball fields and another big field for football or kite flying.
