Rebecca's New Big Girl Bed

YEAH, Rebecca has her very own Big girl bed!!!

Years ago we made a loft bed for Corrine so that she could have room under it, since Rebecca's crib was going to take up some of the floor space. We made the bed knowing that we would eventually make it into a bunk bed with the lower bed for Rebecca. That day has come.
Rebecca's crib suffered a fracture on a side railing a few months back. It was low enough and not a full brake so we left the crib up for her. Then one day she was looking at books in her crib, and sat against that railing and it snapped in half. That was the final straw, and the crib was taken out that day and the pack n play became Rebecca's new bed. I didn't want her in the pack n play very long because it didn't seem that comfortable for an every day bed, so Johann got to work on making Rebecca her own bed. It was a slow process trying to get it done during tax season, so it was a work in progress for quite some time.
This weekend Corrine and Johann cut the final boards, sanded them until they were super soft with rounded corners and put them up. They even made a cute little step for Rebecca to get up on her bed.
To say Rebecca likes her bed is an understatement. For days she kept saying, "Daddy made my bed!" to everyone we saw. She likes to climb up on it and read books or play with her dolls. Corrine was also super excited and made sure that they both had matching pillowcases on their beds.

The bed has one more step before it's completely finished, but we'll wait a while on that one. She will eventually get a bookshelf at the head of the bed like Corrine has. We decided to wait on that because we were afraid she'd roll into it too much right now. Once she starts to sleep more in one place all night, we'll add the bookcase. So for now she has an open area at the bottom of the bed, which we did find her sleeping in one morning.

The highchair is now the only remaining baby item we have in the house. It's amazing how getting rid of the crib and putting her in a twin bed just made her seem so much older, and made the baby days disappear. Now we're on to the next stage of life.
